But renting them for one-way cross country is really tough and expensive. Honestly they don't lose their value once they are used - you might be better off to buy a used one and sell it when you get there, if you can afford to front the money (or use a line of credit). Pick a 24' (the most popular size, easiest to sell), spend $5k-6k, and expect to put $500 into it with fresh tires and possibly refreshing brakes, hitch equipment, locks. I like towing in an enclosed because I don't like advertising what I'm towing, and because you can stuff extra gear in there with the car.
